biography

Hello! Thanks for finding me!

Kesha M PateMy name is Kesha M. Pate and I am an experienced, energetic and ambitious entrepreneur building a career out of living the dream. Yup... that's really a thing. I believe that work and life should be complementary and have spent more than a decade building a portfolio that reflects that belief; and I started my own communications company to focus my life's work on real and impactful change by helping non-profits, small business and artists tell their stories and advance their missions for equity, equality, social justice, the arts and equitable learning opportunies for all peoples.

I've had the privilege to work with amazing artists in all mediums; open an internationally renowned dinosaur exhibit; advocate for individuals with disabilities, seniors and veterans; build a ton of websites; throw amazing parties; host performances by some of the world's greatest musicians; and support non-profits who change and save lives every day - just to name a few of my favs.

Proudly sporting the title of "Road Warrior", I spent the better part of the last decade living part-time in northwest Indiana and part-time in Pittsburgh, and traveling extensively between the Midwest and the East Coast. In 2017, I made the decision to plant my feet back in the Midwest and focus the majority of my work in the region where I grew up. That doesn't mean I don't still travel or that I'm not still working with people all around the globe. Thanks to the power of the interwebs and those fancy clouds, I can keep my feet where my family is and my heart and hands can go wherever I am needed.

I’m also a crazy dog mom to the best, cutest and smartest pair of giant beasts on the planet; and I’m a super aunt to the best nephew in the whooooooole wide world. You can witness the fun for yourself and follow our adventures on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat @keshampate.

In addition to working with all of my awesome clients, I love volunteering with non-profits and community groups doing amazing work in our neighborhoods. If we didn't have all those pesky bills, I would gladly spend my life volunteering. It truly brings me the greatest joy and is my favorite way to use the gifts I've been given. Since 2012, I have had the privilege to serve as the Communications Sponsor for the United Way of LaPorte County. Ahsek Media and I donate everything from printed materials to websites to communications strategic planning to campaign and special event support. We are very proud to support the work United Way is doing in LaPorte County and look forward to many more years helping to positively impact our community. In 2013, I joined the Senator John Heinz History Center as a Volunteer Ambassador for the Saturday Speaker Series "Steel City Groove: Celebrating Jazz in Western PA" working to collect and present the stories of the remarkable men and women to made Pittsburgh a beacon of creativity and artistry during the jazz era. And as a high point to that year, I was asked to serve on the Board of Directors for Attack Theatre, Pittsburgh's premier modern dance company. I am very proud and honored to have serve as the chair for the infamously cool 9th and 10th annual The Dirty Ball, as well as the Board of Directors Development Committee Chair and a committee member for the new One Night Stand signature event from 2015-17. In 2014, I served as an advisory board member for the Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival and worked with in collaboration with several organizations on the social media promotion for the festival. At the end of 2014, I started Steeltown Jazz to promote the past, present and future of JAZZ in Pittsburgh and hosted a full season of performances in 2015 featuring world-renowned jazz musicians and historical videos from the Heinz History Center. For the first time in many years, 2016 found me securely stationed in Pittsburgh for a full year; so I was able to join the Amachi Pittsburgh mentoring program and mentor a young lady in middle school. I also was able to reconnect with my YMCA roots, working as the first Director of Communications for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, championing the cause and advancing the Y mission.

Since moving back to the midwest in 2017, I have had the pleasure to work with some amazing new people who are protecting one of LaPorte County's great natural resources through the Trail Creek Watershed Partnership and support their annual Trail Creek Week where hundreds of youth participate in a week of learning through nature-based activities on water quality, natural history and paddling; and thanks to a partnership with Wilderness Inquiry's Canoemobile — a traveling fleet of six 24' Voyageur canoes and one of the coolest things I've ever seen IRL — the TCWP was able to raise funds to support next year's Trail Creek Week by hosting the first annual The Creekness Stakes — a safe and exciting opportunity for our community to race a voyageur canoe down Trail Creek and experience this beautiful natural resource first hand. I also joinded my local Rotary Club and helped to support the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County's 25th Anniversary Gala, which raised over $213,000 for local non-profits. Ahsek Media and I have also enjoyed several new opportunities to support our local Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club. Finally in 2017, in addition to my usual support of the United Way of LaPorte County's annual fall gala, I also served as the auction committee chair. Phew! It has been an awesome couple of years! And the adventure continues... In 2018, I will be helping the United Way of LaPorte County develop a new strategic communications and marketing action plan, as well as several new signature events and fundraising campaigns; I have taken on the Michigan City Police Department and the Michigan City Fire Department as my charities of choice for the year to help support their community engagement and education work; and I have joined the board of directors of the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, serving as the ArtBash Committee Chair and Strategic Planning Committee Chair.

When I’m not working or volunteering, I enjoy spending time with my dogs and my family, cooking for the people I love and exploring my favorite city on earth, Chicago. It's good to be home and I am blessed to be #LivingThe Dream.

Well, that’s about sums it up. If you’d like to learn more about me, drop me a line or find me out in the socialwebs.

Cheers!
Kesha

The YMCA

The YMCA is an amazing organization - one that has had a profound impact on my life. I got my first Y membership at 6 months old when my mom took me to "Mommy and Me Swim Class". I attended Challenge Courses and Sprout Camp before kindergarten, summer camp every year in elementary school and played in nearly every sports leauge throughout the year growing up. In my teens, the Y gave us a safe place to gather and socialize; and as an adult I continue to benefit from the exercise facilites and community enagement Y membership provides. I cannot express how valuable a Y membership is, not only for the individual, but for the community in which they live. Wherever you are, there is a Y nearby. Join. Become a part of something greater. You won't regret it.

Thanks to a partnership with Wilderness Inquiry's Canoemobile — a traveling fleet of six 24' Voyageur canoes and one of the coolest things I've ever seen IRL — the TCWP was able to raise funds to support next year's Trail Creek Week by hosting the first annual The Creekness Stakes — a safe and exciting opportunity for our community to race a voyageur canoe down Trail Creek and experience this beautiful natural resource first hand.
